New Book Takes on Anxiety and Depression in Accounting

Anything accounting professionals can use to help battle anxiety and depression that often comes from a variety of factors in their line of work is a good thing. As such, Kristy Short, EdD, author, former partner at Rootworks, and long-time thought leader, has a new book that addresses these issues and more, head-on.

In CIVIL WARRIOR, Kristy points out that anxiety, depression, and burnout pervade today’s workplace. Moreover, her book is a testament to the fact that the profession and its people need to amplify the dialogue around mental health and self-care.

“What I love about the accounting profession is that it’s founded in community; that it’s a profession built on relationships and genuine care for others,” she said. “There are people hurting under the strain of anxiety and burnout. My goal is to progress the narrative, turn up the volume, and let folks know that they are not alone. That we are all in this together and here to talk about it—together.”

Her book is part memoir, offering a retelling of her most private moments, and part self-help—where she shares her “Program” for overcoming anxiety, staving off depression, and rebooting from soul-thrashing burnout to get back to her passion—serving her much-beloved accounting profession and writing all day, every day.

She is planning a national speaking tour, consisting of well-known trade show events, podcast appearances, and whatever else she can think of to get the word out.

You can pre-order your copy of CIVIL WARRIOR at online retailers, including:

Now, I don’t endorse or promote books very often, but having worked with Kristy as a contributing writer for years and knowing her passion for the topic and commitment to seeing the accounting profession live its best life, I would be remiss if I did not give it any attention.
