Here we are, beginning the 2nd quarter of the century, with a new administration in place in Washington and tons of questions about what the tax and business landscape will look like. What hasn’t changed is Tax Season is here and you need to have your mind right, regardless.
I know, it is the same year in and out. Regardless of what happens in state or federal government, no matter what the IRS does or doesn’t do (as is mostly the case), tax pros do their best for their clients in any environment. They deal in what they know, even if “it depends,” and no matter what comes their way, they see it through.
Over the years, perhaps more so in recent times, that “seeing it through” with fewer professionals to do the work and even fewer answers coming in the regulatory environment, and what rules or factors may impact business and individual clients, is taking its toll.
I’ve commented many times on how an increasing number of tax pros simply just don’t want to do it anymore—not idle threats either, as the numbers have shown. But those who choose to remain as a tax professional need to be reminded, as I have done before, that you DO got this.
How am I so sure? Because you have each other, whether you know it at this moment or not. I’ve already seen you sharing your snack recipes, workout break routines, and ensuring that you culled your client list of the most “problem” clients.
I hear you encouraging one another with words of support when you can’t get through to someone at the IRS, increased frustrations over BOI reporting, or just to raise your fees because you are worth it.
Again, like every year, there’s always something set to derail you, make you feel less than, or just flat-out confound the heck out of you. So to you all, I say with all of my heart once more with feeling: You can do it!
So, before the storm comes, remember:
· Take a breath
· Plan your breaks
· Don’t answer every call or email right away
· Check in with yourself (and others where possible)
· Know when to say “No” or “Enough” for the day
Once again, for the back row, You got this! And, where possible, try to make it Productive Season, not Busy Season.
Nice
