If you know me, you know how much I support and advocate for accounting professionals to attend live events. And if you’ve been to enough of them, you begin to see many of the same things, which is why I was so pleased to discover a live event proposes something you don’t often see in an accounting conference: gamification.
Imagine instead of sitting in a CPE track on a relevant topic of choice and taking notes (or checking email or other activities until it’s time to answer poll questions), you become an active participant in a game show-type competition. This and more are what CPAcon aims to accomplish.
From the mind of CalCPA director and NABA Los Angeles, President Kendale King, CPA, CPAcon brings together his many passions of gaming and professional education for accounting and finance pros. This one-day event will be held on Tuesday, December 3 at the Shrine Auditorium & Expo Hall in Los Angeles and feature entertaining and engaging sessions eligible for 8 CPE credits. Some CPAcon session titles include: The Ledger Labyrinth, GL-Adiator, Post It! and The Balance Sheet.
We’ve already seen examples at existing events where active participation breeds not only engagement but interest and connection. Having an entire day where you can not only connect with accounting colleagues but be a part of a new way of learning is going to move the needle and may even set some new trends in how live accounting events are structured.
But I don’t want to get ahead of myself. CPE as we know, can be achieved anywhere at any time, and live events are there for more than just that. If you are at all curious about how things could be at an educational accounting event and you are in or plan to travel to the LA area, give CPAcon your time. Take a look at this promo from Kendale himself as well.
